Waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains- Top Waterfall Picks That Are Close to Glenstone Lodge

So are you tired of your everyday manmade water and theme parks?  Take a vacation from your vacation and visit the beautiful natural waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Enjoy five breathtaking waterfalls and nature trails within 30 minutes of Glenstone Lodge.

One of the most popular waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is Grotto Falls which is only seventy minutes away from Glenstone Lodge and is located on the Trillium Gap Trail. This is the only waterfall in the area that allows access to walk behind the twenty-five foot splash zone which is a really attractive feature to families. Then you have Hen Wallow Falls which is a lesser visited waterfall in the Smokies but offers just as a spectacular view. This ride is two feet wide at the top with a ninety foot drop that fans out into a 20 foot base at the bottom. It is just a thirty minute trip from Glenstone Lodge to enjoy this attraction and then a moderate 4.4 mile hike (round trip) on the Gabes Mountain Trail. Looking for something closer? Only a quick fourteen minute drive is Laurel Falls where you can experience a somewhat more tamed hike with a paved path through the Laurel Falls Trail to view a spectacular eighty foot drop.  One of the long-time favorite waterfalls is Rainbow Falls which got its name because a rainbow produced by mist can sometimes be visible on sunny afternoons. There is no pot o’ gold at the end but you will get to see another stunning eighty-foot high waterfall by visiting Rainbow Falls. For those really seeking to explore, go four more miles pass the waterfall to the top of Mountain Le Conte.  Not too far from Glenstone Lodge is the tallest waterfall in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Ramsey Cascades. This 100-foot high waterfall is one of the more difficult to hike to but remarkable to see.

Don’t worry if visiting waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains or hiking is not what you are looking for. Glenstone Lodge’s location allows you to enjoy many great Gatlinburg attractions such as the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies and the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum to live entertainment at the Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre & Music Hall. Of course, there is always great shopping in Gatlinburg!
